The Government, through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has distributed 400 bags of fertilizer to two Muslim communities in Tamale under its National Care Initiative.The Tamale Central Mosque and the Ambariya Muslim Community each received 200 bags.
According to the Ministry, this is the first time such support has been extended to Muslim groups in Tamale. The intervention is targeted at Imams, Islamic leaders and teachers who combine religious duties with farming to support their families and communities.
SUPPORT TO BOOST FOOD PRODUCTION
Presenting the items, Abubakar Abdul Moumin, Managing Director of Produce Buying Company [PBC] Shea and Board Chair of the Seed Council, said the donation forms part of government’s efforts to boost the farming activities of beneficiaries.He noted that supporting faith-based leaders who farm will improve household food security and contribute to agricultural productivity in the region.

Receiving the fertilizer on behalf of Ambariya, General Secretary Dr. Issa Yakubu Abdallah thanked government for the gesture.“The Mallams are not only teaching Arabic and Islamic studies but also engage in farming as a side job, which is beneficial to them,” he said.
Also speaking, Mohammed Mubarak, Press Secretary and Director of the Ambariya Sunni Community, described the timing of the support as critical. “The fertilizers have come at the right time when we need them. Giving out fertilizer means we are taking care of an entire community because each beneficiary has a household to support,” he stated.
The Ministry said similar interventions will be rolled out to other selected groups across the country as part of the National Care Initiative.
